ABOUT US
Pizzaza started as a joke. I used to make pizzas for my friends in the barracks when I was stationed at Fort Hood TX. One day we were watching the movie The Exorcist and I happen to be making some pan pizzas on a little hot plate I had in my kitchenette. The name of the films main antagonist, the demon Pazuzu, flashed through my head. I do a lot of play on words and word association in my head and naturally derived the name Pizzaza from fusing together Pazuzu and Pizza. Like I said it was a joke. My friends encouraged me to do something with the idea since I was close to the end of my contract in the Army and would need to have something to do when I got out. So, with the help of my better half, I became we and we are now Pizzaza. We started off like infants, navigating the food pop-up scene with no clue what we were doing and learning as we went. To be honest we still don't know exactly what we are doing, but we are a heck of lot more proficient than where we were a year and a half ago, and we can make a pretty mean pizza pie now too.
Humility is key and we are still trying to be more honest with ourselves as we go forward. We get it right more than not nowadays, but we still hit some challenges here and there. In being honest with myself I had to reflect and confront some personal beliefs. 1. I have never been a true business man in the sense that I don't like money (I know... why start a business in the first place and how do I expect to survive in an economic world). 2. I believe capitalism has let the worst of our nature ruin the world, we are encouraged to justify taking advantage of one another to get ahead and a symptom of our greed has been the decline of our beautiful planet.
I refuse to back down from those beliefs no matter the argument against them. I refuse to compromise myself or my business model. I believe people should have access to affordable food, clean food, organic and natural food. Because I can't change the world with a snap of my fingers and we live in an economic landscape in order to have a business I have to charge money, but all our pizzas will always be priced at what you can afford. I believe in transparency and in that spirit most of our pizzas don't cost more than $5 to make and that is with organic flours and ingredients/toppings. We do 12" pizzas and we have a suggested price of $10, but we will always be a "pay what you can" business.
